Terms of condition
1. The International Summer Academy
Lüneburger Heide is being presented by Internationale Sommerakademie
Lüneburger Heide e.V.. It is primarily addressing music students and
young musicians engaging in professional music education. It takes place
in Uelzen, Germany, and surrounding communities. In principal, there is
no upper age limit. However, music studies should not have been
finished earlier than three years prior to the Summer Academy. All sent
material will be checked by a committee and applicants will be selected
for participation according to their qualification.
2. The course fee includes:
a) at least three lessons* with one chosen teacher (for multiple booking see # 3)
b) at least two sessions* with the Quartet-in-Residence (see # 5)
c) accomodation (youth hostel standard; double, 4- and 6-bed rooms, see # 4)
d) full board (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
e) local transportation* (participants are responsible themselves for their travel to Uelzen, Germany) - the Summer Academy will provide detailed travel information on request)
f) practising facilities at the music school of Uelzen
* if capacity allows, more lessons and sessions are possible without extra charges, provided that both the respective teacher(s) and the artistic director agree.
** lessons will take place in Uelzen and surrounding communities. All necessary local transportation will be organized according to need and will be free for the participants.
The course fee is 350 Euros. Multiple courses cost 300 Euros per each chosen teacher. A reduced course fee of 300 Euros applies to pupils, pre-college students and members of chamber music groups (300 Euros per each member) and participants who chose more than one course (300 Euros per each course. See # 3).
The respective course fee for each participant is fixed and there will be no refund if participants make use of only part of the offered service (f.e. no accomodation, late arrival, early departure, no collaboration with the Quartet-in-residence).
3. Applicants can apply for one or more teachers. Multiple occupancy is only possible if capacity allows and guarantees the full number of lessons for each respective teacher. Should the desired teacher be fully booked already, the applicant will be contacted by the Summer Academy and the application will be accepted for another available teacher. This also applies to multiple-course applicants.
4. Free accomodation at the Jugendbildungsstätte Oldenstadt is available to each participant. There are 2-, 4- and 6-bed rooms. Guests can be brought according to capacity, however, a fee of 33 Euros per person and night (including full board, see # 2 d) will be charged. It is recommended that applicants inform the Summer Academy ahead of time about their accomodation wishes. On request, accepted participants receive a list of all participants including email adresses in order to allow for arrangements for sharing rooms. Participants may also book their own accomodation at their own expense. The Summer Academy will provide a list of hotels and youth hostels on request. Free accomodation with host families is also available on a first come, first served basis as spaces are limited; guests will be charged 20 Euros per person and night.
5. The Faust Quartet will be available daily (except for Saturday, August 21) to work with the participants, including the two participants' concerts. Following repertory may be prepared:
- Mozart: Piano Concertos K 415 & 449
- Chopin: Piano Concerto in f minor
- Schumann: Piano Quintet in E flat major
- Dvorak: Piano Quintet in A major
6. The number of participants for each teacher is limited to twelve. Therefore, a preselection may be necessary and each application needs to be accompanied by the following:
- an artist's photo (in digital form, to be sent via email to post@summeracademyofmusic.com)
- a recording (CD, MD, DVD) containing repertory freely chosen by the applicant
- an artist's biography
- a letter of recommendation
- list of possible course repertory
Chamber music groups count as one participant unless solo lessons are taken as well. Nonetheless the reduced course fee is to be paid by each member.

8. The application deadline is July 1, 2010. The application is binding. It is only valid after all necessary documents have arrived and the application fee (as resulting from # 2) has been received by Internationale Sommerakademie Lüneburger Heide e.V. All applicants will be notified by email as soon as their application is complete. They will be notified by July 15, 2010, if they have been accepted as participants. Applicants who have not been accepted will receive their application fee (less 30 Euros handling fee) back. Upon withdrawal, the application fee (less 30 Euros handling fee) will be refunded only if the course(s) booked by the applicant can be given to another applicant.
9. Prize money and concerts may or may not be awarded in case there are too few outstanding participants. The course teachers and the quartet-in-resicence will deliberate upon prizes and concerts to be awarded.
10. Place of jurisdiction is Uelzen. This English translation of the terms of condition has been provided for convenience. In case of any dispute, the German version shall be binding.
