Hinrich Alpers (piano, chamber music, artistic director)

Hinrich Alpers was born in Uelzen and started piano lessons at an early age. Already at age 11 he was accepted to study with Prof. Bernd Goetzke at Musikhochschule Hannover where he contined his professional studies for his entire education. In addition, he spent one year as grantee of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) at the Juilliard School, New York, in the studio of Jerome Lowenthal.
His multifaceted musicianship launched an international concert career. Hinrich Alpers has been guest at numerous festivals (Schleswig-Holstein, Ottawa Chamber Music Festival, Beethovenfest Bonn), radio and television stations. He has published a CD with works by Robert Schumann in 2009.
Hinrich Alpers has been awarded many prizes. His latest victory, First Prize at the International Telekom Beethoven Competition in Bonn, awarded him both special prizes for the commissioned work and best chamber music performances (with cellist Misha Maisky). He was First Prize winner of "Concours Grieg", Oslo 2004, as well as Second Laureate and spezial award winner for chamber music and the commissioned work at the Esther Honens International Piano Competition in Calgary, Canada.
Hinrich Alpers teaches at the Hannover Musikhochschule. He is artistic director of the International Summer Academy Lüneburger Heide, lives in Berlin and in his time apart from music devotes himself to cooking, photography and natural sciences.
